Final September #Writemotivation Update and Countdown to NaNoWriMo

It’s October 4? What do you mean, it’s already October 4? I don’t recall authorizing this. It’s still September…please?

So the NaNoWriMo site relaunched this week, which means ML duties have kicked in in full, which means my yearly break with sanity has begun (as evidenced by the email I sent out this morning with no subject line).

We also had a NaNo-crafting get-together last weekend, which resulted in a whole lot of these:

Tulsa NaNo coffins and graveyard

What are these for? Well, you’ll find out soon… *evil cackles*

Yes, those are coffins. Yes, certain people who shall remain nameless got a little happy about painting blood on them.

It’s a really, really bad thing that NaNo comes right after Halloween, because the craft stores are full of Halloween decorations and every trip there pretty much ends with me and Rebekah going, “OOH! Do you know what we could do with THESE?” while grabbing cardboard skulls or wooden coffins or dancing skeletons or cobweb stickers.

That we exercise any kind of restraint is a testament to our willpower, seriously.

Anyway, here’s the final look at my goals for the month:

1) Finish Buzz stuff by Sept. 10.

2) Edit 5 chapters of the ’06 NaNo per week.
Yup. Pretty much got this done, at least with paper edits. Still haven’t imported the changes on the last 5-6 chapters into a Word document, and I probably won’t until I make it through this next section.

3) Post to the blog twice a week.
Pretty much. We’ll call it good.

4) Post at least 2 reviews.
*sighs* I actually had about 3 written, but just haven’t gotten them up. Maybe I’ll finish them all in October and post them throughout the next two months?

5) Comment on at least 3 other blogs each week.
I got out and definitely commented on more blogs this month than I have previously, so I’m going to call this good.

And I think that actually wraps up #writemotivation for 2012. For October, my biggest goal is getting both November AND December freelance articles written and delivered before 10/13 and 10/31, respectively. And for November, well, my goal is to hit 50,000 words by the end of the month. 😀

And December, my goal will be to fall over and hibernate until 2013, emerging only for The Hobbit and Christmas.

How did September go for you? Any of you guys doing NaNo? Have you checked out the shiny new site yet?

  1. Hi!
I’m doing NaNo this year. Really excited and nervous at the same time, but its my first year so I really have no idea whether I’ll make the target.
How many times haave you participated?

Yay! Glad you can join us in the madness. Seriously, it’s fun.

This will be my sixth year doing NaNoWriMo, and my third year doing it as an ML.

The best way to hit your target? Get involved with your local NaNo community and with the forums in general. You get lots of encouragement that way, and it makes you less of a hermit for the month!

  2. I can’t remain nameless if you link to me! hahaha =) It’s okay, I don’t mind. Gotta let my happy little weird self express itself somehow. It just happened to come out in painting bloody coffins that day… ..>

I love your happy little weird self, and I think our coffins look awesome. 🙂

    • This is why I love you guys. ;-D Also, bloody coffins are awesome! 😀

Seriously, awesome job, Michelle. You got quite a bit done. And Nano? Oh yeah, um, if I get involved this year, I’m cheating. I’m halfway done with my current MS and don’t want to stop…it doesn’t want me to stop! As a matter of fact, it has promised to do bad things to my already fractured brain if I stop. o_0

Definitely NaNo’ing this year! Just got my little Turkish blank journal in and decided to once again handwrite the first draft, only this time I’m stealing a page from Gaiman and altering pens with different colors each day to measure how much I write each day.

  4. You got a lot done in September. More than I did. I hope y’all came up with some dares and prompts that can be given a humorous twist at the get together last weekend.
